Shannon received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from George Mason University in 2008, a Masters in Science in Adult Geriatric Nurse Practitioner from Catholic University in 2014, and a post Masters Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner degree from Johns Hopkins University in 2021. She is board-certified in primary care and psychiatry as a nurse practitioner. Shannon has practiced medicine for over 12 years, beginning with her experience as a nurse on the medical surgical floor for five years at Sibley Hospital, Washington DC. She advanced on to be a nurse practitioner for Johns Hopkins University in Infectious Disease. She has practiced at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center primary care group as a nurse practitioner treating patients with diverse and complex needs for over five years.

Her interest in psychiatry and substance use developed after seeing many patients with these health concerns and the limited care in the community. Her recent experience in psychiatry has been at Arundel Lodge behavioral health urgent care clinic treating patients of all ages with mental health conditions and substance use.
