You are invited to participate in this free, full-day conference to learn about implementing trauma-informed care in the human services. There is a growing recognition that psychological trauma is a pivotal force that shapes the mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing of those seeking healing and recovery with the support of mental health and human services.

Who is invited: A cross-section of community members and professionals, including mental health providers, law enforcement, Corrections and Parole and Probation, Department of Social Services, mental health consumers, practitioners, family members, and advocates. Space will be limited, so reserve your spot soon.

The National Center for Trauma-Informed Care (NCTIC) offers consultation and technical assistance, education and outreach, and resources to support this revolutionary shift in publicly-funded programs. While the prevalence of trauma is more recognized now than ever, there is still great need to create trauma-informed environments with trauma-specific interventions that support consumers and survivors.

The Program will include:
  • What is Trauma and why must we address it? - Joan Gillece, PhD
  • Neurobiology of Trauma - Brian Sims M.D.
  • Film and Discussion: Behind Closed Doors
  • Tools for Self Regulation - Joan Gillece, PhD
  • Trauma and Recovery - Tonier Cain
  • The TAMAR Program - Joan Gillece, PhD & Tonier Cain
Joan Gillece is Program Director at the National Center for Trauma-Informed Care. Tonier Cain is Technical Assistance Lead for NCTIC. Arundel Lodge is serving co-sponsoring the conference in collaboration with NCTIC. Arundel Lodge is a community behavioral health services agency at 2600 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037.

There is no charge for the conference, but we ask that you pre-register; space is limited. You may also order, by December 7th, an optional $5 bag lunch.
